Frequently Asked Questions

What is Master's Commission?
Master's Commission is an intense nine-month long discipleship program. Our mission is 'to know God, and to make Him known.' We believe that having an intimate relationship with Christ is the key to being a disciple. We also believe that a disciple must share the truth of the gospel to a lost and dying world.

How did it begin?
Masters Commission is an International discipleship movement. Born in Phoenix, Arizona, it has spread all across the U.S. and around the world. MC has grown into a movement through the leadership of Lloyd Ziegler. Students pledged one year of their life to study the Bible, to scripture memorization, and ministry. Since that time this movement has produced thousands of disciples all over the world.

What's the point of Master's Commission?
Master's builds a foundation of prayer and Biblical study through which you will learn how to live "in the world but not of it".

Why Should I give this time?
Statistics say that in ten years, two-thirds of teenagers going to youth group won't be in church. Living a life worthy of being called a Christian is serious, it's not a game. You "should" give this time because accomplishing God's will for our lives is impossible without a strong foundation and an intimate relationship with Him.

What will I learn in Masters?
Aside from the spiritual disciplines you will gain practical hands-on ministry experience. You will not leave knowing just how to do something, but you will have done it. Master's Commission is full-time ministry. You will live what you learn and learn what you live.

Who can join Masters Commission?
We are looking for students who are spiritually hungry to serve God at a greater commitment. We are looking for those who are willing to pay the price and count the cost. If you are 17 or older and ready to become a disciple then you are a candidate to become a student.

How can I apply?
First of all, submit a completed application (you can find it here) with the $75 non refundable processing fee.

If I was in another MC program, can I still apply?
Absolutely. The application process is slightly different for 2nd and 3rd year applicants so please go to our contact page and get in touch with us.

When is the best time to apply?
We accept applications year-round. You can apply online or request an application on this site, just click here for more information.

When does a typical year start and end?
Master's Commission year starts in September (Labor day weekend) and ends the third/fourth week of May.

Do I need health insurance?
Yes. Each student must show proof of health coverage. MCUSA is not responsible for medical expenses incurred throughout the school year.

What do I need to bring?
Upon admittance to the program, we will send you an acceptance folder that includes general information about the year and what to bring.

Will I need a vehicle?
The students will be required to do some daily traveling to and from campus as well as to other ministry locations. A good running car will be essential (or highly recommended). If you are unable to acquire a vehicle, please contact our office.

Can I work while attending MC?
Master's Commission is a full-time commitment that leaves no time for outside obligations. In order to make this a life-changing opportunity for you to learn and grow, your complete dedication is needed. For that reason students are not allowed to maintain outside employment during the 9-month school year.

Do I need to have all my money on registration day?
Not necessarily. Please contact our office to set up a payment plan if you are unable to pay in full on registration day.

Is a high school diploma required?
Yes. At MCUSA, we place a high priority on education. Therefore, we require each applicant to have at least a high school diploma or GED.

How long does it take for the application process?
We take applications VERY seriously. After receiving your full application, we will set up a phone interview. Once this is completed and the application materials are in, we will prayerfully strive to understand God's will for your future regarding MCUSA.

What are you looking for in a perspective student?
We are looking for a student who wants to seek God wholeheartedly by sacrificing nine months of their life to His service. It is less about perfection or ability and more about one's heart.

Why can't I do a normal FAFSA student loan?
We are not tied to a title IV school; therefore, the government will not authorize a typical FAFSA loan.

Are there any breaks during the nine-month period?
Yes. There is a break during Christmas. Dates will be outlined in your acceptance packet.

During my first year at Master's, can I date?
No. We want students to honestly get the most out of this experience. For that reason, students are not allowed to date during their first year.

What is provided in the dorms?
Items that will be supplied for you:
  • Single twin bed
  • Closet space
  • Washer and dryer facilities (coin-operated)
  • Kitchen appliances (refrigerator, stove/oven, microwave, dishwasher)
  • Dining table and living room furniture

Is tuition tax-deductible?
We are a nonprofit institution. However, we are an education-based nonprofit program and therefore, according to the IRS and many accountants with whom we've checked, our tuition is not a tax-deductible expense.
